Apply pressure on the roller with your hands and lift your hips. Roll slowly from above the knees to below the glutes. Pause on tender areas for 30-90 seconds, breathing deeply and relaxing into the pressure. Rotate your leg to target different areas; switch legs for increased intensity.
To ensure a safe and effective release, roll the roller slowly and with controlled movements, focusing on maintaining consistent contact with the muscle tissue. When you encounter a particularly tight or tender spot, pause and hold for 30-90 seconds, allowing the muscle to release and lengthen. Deep, diaphragmatic breathing helps to relax the muscles and enhance the release, so inhale deeply and exhale slowly during the hold. Actively engage your core muscles throughout the exercise to stabilize your spine and prevent lower back strain. Be mindful to avoid rolling directly over bony areas like the hip bones or spine, as this can cause discomfort or injury; instead, adjust your position slightly to work the surrounding muscle tissue. Rotating your leg slightly during the roll allows you to target different muscle fibers and ensure more comprehensive release across the glutes and hamstrings.
