This exercise involves lowering a barbell to your upper abdomen and pressing it back up. Begin by lying on a bench, ensuring your head is securely supported. Grip the bar with an overhand hold, slightly wider than shoulder-width, and secure your thumbs. Throughout the movement, maintain a stable base by engaging your core and driving your heels into the floor.
A grip around shoulder-width will help safeguard your wrists and focus the work on your triceps. Begin with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and fully contract the muscles. Actively pinch your shoulder blades together to create a solid foundation and safeguard your shoulder joints. Lowering the bar to your upper stomach helps maintain natural alignment of your wrists and elbows. Focus on controlled movements, resisting the weight as you lower and powerfully pressing as you raise. Prioritize form over weight to prevent injuries and maximize effectiveness.
