How to perform

Lower your torso backward, stretching your abs. Exhale and curl your torso up by contracting your abs, bringing your ribcage towards your pelvis. Extend until nearly upright, flexing at the hips. Inhale and slowly lower back down, controlling the movement. Keep your glutes engaged.

Muscles Worked

External Obliques
Secondary: Iliopsoas, Transverse Abdominis, Erector Spinae

Tips

Focus on drawing your ribs towards your hips to maximize abdominal engagement and ensure a controlled, deliberate movement. Tuck your chin slightly towards your chest to maintain a neutral spine and prevent neck strain throughout the exercise. Control the lowering (negative) portion of the exercise to increase time under tension and build strength, resisting the pull of gravity. Plant your feet firmly on the ground to provide a stable base and prevent rocking or shifting during the exercise.
