How to perform

Engage core and glutes for stability. Bend laterally, avoiding rotation or forward lean. Feel the stretch in your obliques. Return to upright, then repeat on the other side.

Muscles Worked

Rectus Abdominis
Secondary: Erector Spinae, Anterior Delts

Tips

Maintain a stable base by locking your hips down and preventing any rocking or shifting during the movement, which will isolate the oblique muscles. Focus solely on bending to the side, resisting the urge to twist your torso or lean forward, as this will shift the emphasis away from the targeted muscles. Keep your core consistently engaged throughout the exercise to protect your lower back and enhance oblique activation. Extend your arms overhead to help maintain balance and encourage a greater range of motion in your torso. Keep your eyes focused on a fixed point in front of you to help maintain proper spinal alignment and prevent unnecessary head movements. Perform the exercise with a slow, controlled tempo to maximize muscle engagement and reduce the risk of injury, feeling the stretch and contraction throughout the entire range of motion.
