Engage your core for stability, then initiate the movement by tilting forward at your hips, simultaneously extending one leg backward. Descend until your upper body is almost level with the ground, or you feel a stretch in the back of your thigh. Use your glute muscles to powerfully return to an upright position, keeping your spine straight and your core engaged. Alternate legs with each repetition.
Imagine you’re shutting a car trunk with your backside to ensure you’re moving your hips backward, not bending at your lower back. Keep your chest lifted and your back straight throughout the exercise to properly target your hamstrings and avoid rounding. Really contract your glutes at the top of the movement for a stronger hip extension and more glute activation. Maintain a stiff core throughout the exercise to protect your lower back from excessive arching or twisting. Extending your non-working leg straight behind you will improve your balance and intensify the hamstring stretch.
