Pull the bar towards your lower chest, driving elbows back to shoulder height. Squeeze shoulder blades at the top, hold briefly, then slowly lower the bar while allowing shoulder blades to relax.
Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together forcefully at the peak of the movement to maximize muscle engagement and ensure proper form; this action helps retract the scapulae and creates a strong contraction. Keep your elbows at shoulder height throughout the pull to target the lats effectively and avoid putting unnecessary stress on your shoulders. Maintain an upright torso with a neutral spine and chest lifted to engage your core and prevent rounding of the back, which can compromise stability and reduce power. Control the return phase by resisting the downward motion to maintain tension on the muscles and prevent momentum from taking over, ensuring a more effective workout. Avoid using momentum by focusing on a slow, deliberate tempo, as rushing the movement can reduce muscle activation and increase the risk of injury.
