How to perform

Adjust the incline bench to a 45-degree angle. Grab a pair of dumbbells and lie face down on the bench with your chest against the incline and your arms hanging down towards the floor. Start with a neutral grip (palms facing each other) and keep a slight bend in your elbows. Engage your core and lift the dumbbells out to the sides in a Y-shape, keeping your arms straight. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of the movement and hold for a second. Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position. Repeat for the desired number of reps.

Muscles Worked

Rear delt
Secondary: Upper trapezius, Middle trapezius, Infraspinatus, Teres minor

Tips

Use light weights to maintain control throughout the movement. Keep your shoulders down and away from your ears throughout the movement. Breathe steadily: exhale as you raise the dumbbells, inhale as you lower them. Avoid swinging your body or using momentum to lift the weights.
