Exhale, raise your arm laterally and slightly forward, leading with your elbow until parallel to the floor. Squeeze your shoulder, hold briefly, then inhale and slowly lower the handle with control, avoiding full weight stack contact. Switch sides.
To initiate the movement, focus on leading with your elbow, visualizing it as the primary driver of the arm's upward path, which helps isolate the lateral deltoid. Ensure your pinkie is slightly higher than your thumb during the lift, as this encourages proper external rotation and maximizes muscle engagement. Consciously avoid shrugging your shoulders throughout the exercise, as this would shift the focus to the trapezius muscles and compromise the targeted deltoid work; maintain a relaxed neck and shoulders. Engage your core muscles by gently drawing your navel towards your spine to stabilize your torso and prevent unwanted movement during the lift. Lower the weight with deliberate control, resisting the urge to let it drop quickly, to maximize time under tension and promote muscle growth.
