Exhale, raise dumbbells to shoulder height, leading with your shoulders. Maintain a slight bend in your elbows. Pause, squeezing your anterior deltoids, then inhale as you slowly lower the dumbbells.
To initiate the movement effectively, focus on leading with your elbows, ensuring your shoulder muscles are doing the primary work. Engage your core muscles throughout the exercise to stabilize your torso and prevent unwanted movement, which will help maintain proper form and protect your lower back. Avoid using momentum to swing the dumbbells; control the movement throughout the entire range of motion, focusing on a slow and deliberate pace. At the top of the movement, consciously squeeze your anterior deltoids (front shoulder muscles) to maximize muscle engagement and feel the contraction.
